Empowering Young Volunteers: A Skills Valorisation Workshop with AFEV
Eurasia Net × AFEV | Marseille, April 15, 2026
On April 15, 2026, Eurasia Net partnered with AFEV (Association de la Fondation Étudiante pour la Ville) in Marseille to run a youth volunteer skills valorisation workshop with 20 student volunteers actively engaged in educational mentoring programmes across the city.
Turning Volunteering Into a Professional Asset
Many young volunteers struggle to present their civic engagement as a professional experience. This workshop addressed that gap directly. Through a series of hands-on activities, the 20 participants learned how to identify their soft skills, build a stronger CV, and confidently present their experience in job interviews.
Key skills explored included communication, adaptability, empathy, teamwork, crisis management and initiative — all developed through AFEV’s weekly mentoring missions with children from disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
What Happened on the Day
The session — facilitated by Eurasia Net’s team — combined energiser activities, a competency barometer, a collaborative CV workshop and a mock job interview exercise in trios. Participants practised answering real recruiter questions, learning to reframe their volunteering experience using concrete, achievement-focused language:
“I was a volunteer” → “I supported X young people in their educational journey for one full academic year”
The workshop closed with a toolkit presentation featuring Diagoriente/Brillo, Europass and key job search platforms for local and international opportunities.
Youth Engagement Meets Career Development
This initiative is part of Eurasia Net’s broader mission to connect youth volunteering, intercultural learning and professional development — including through the European HOME Erasmus+ project, which links civic engagement with academic learning across 6 countries.
Volunteering builds real skills. Together, we help young people prove it.
