How to volunteer abroad in Europe ?

On April 14th, the HOME Project hosted a live webinar dedicated to one of the most life-changing decisions a young person can make: volunteering abroad in Europe. Here’s what we explored together.

Volunteering abroad is more than just a gap year experience — it’s a powerful way to grow, connect, and contribute to communities across Europe. But where do you start? How do you find the right program? And what does it actually feel like to live and work as a volunteer in a foreign country?

These are exactly the questions our webinar set out to answer. Over the course of the session, participants had the opportunity to learn from two passionate experts with first-hand experience in the field, ask their questions in real time, and leave with a clearer vision of their own volunteering journey.

What was explored during the session

From finding the right program to navigating life abroad, the webinar covered the key questions that anyone considering a volunteering experience in Europe needs to ask. Participants discovered the variety of opportunities available — from environmental projects to social work, from urban centres to rural communities — and the different funding mechanisms that make these experiences accessible to all, regardless of background or resources.

The session was also a space for honest conversation: about the emotional side of moving abroad, adapting to a new culture, and building meaningful connections in an unfamiliar environment.

Ready to take the leap?

Whether you’ve been dreaming about volunteering abroad for years or you’re just starting to explore the idea, this webinar was a reminder that the path is more accessible than it seems — and the impact, both personal and collective, is very real.

The HOME Project is committed to supporting young people on this journey. More events, resources and opportunities are on the way. Follow us to stay informed and be part of the conversation.
